The Brief
The Information Systems teams throughout ICI wanted to provide a better service to their customers across the globe. At the same time they faced a major change in their role. It wasn’t just the goal posts that were being moved but the whole stadium!
In the past IS staff were predominantly technically-focused, developing computer systems directly for their internal customers. Now Information Technology is supplied through ‘out sourcing’ to a number of external suppliers, some of them larger than even ICI.
The Solution
The IS Development Manager said, “Technical skills are still important, but we are also looking at other aspects such as change management, process improvement and consultancy. Supplier management is such a key area because of the large amounts of money invested in the services we buy”.
Communicate worked closely in partnership with ICI and created a ‘virtual’ team to produce a radical new programme. This team included representatives from the IS Department’s customers, ICI Purchasing and Supply, the strategic Corporate Purchasing Group and a selection of suppliers, as well as our own specialists.
