Introduction
Whenever two or more people come together with a common purpose, they form a culture with its own written and unwritten rules for behaviour. Every organisation has its own invisible ‘rule-book’ (accepted ways of working), which provides a strong indication of the existing culture.
Families, workplaces and communities all have cultures. These cultures have a tremendous, though rarely recognised, impact upon our behaviour as individuals.
Typical Objectives:
Rejuvenating your culture with a supportive, long-term programme |
Ensuring that programme has a practical bias and a structure that supports learning ‘on the job’ |
Facilitating understanding of peoples’ role and responsibilities. In the culture change |
Inspiring teams to build in long-term solutions |
Enabling a shift in attitude from reactive to proactive |
Providing the opportunity for teams to share and benefit from each other’s experience |
Sample Programme
Effective culture change starts with raising awareness of current individual behaviour traits, particularly those of the leaders. We then help people explore new perspectives of ‘the way we do things around here’ - eliminating negative behaviours and replacing them with those that support the future vision.
Outline
Pilot - or ‘pilots’, as you may need to design different approaches for different audiences, whilst maintaining a consistent message. The pilot can sometimes double as a recruiting drive for ‘champions’. |
Teaser Campaigns - internal postcards, desk-drops, posters, newsletter articles and even pay-packet inserts are examples of how you can raise awareness and anticipation. |
Champions - a cost-effective method of rolling out the message is through champions. This approach also creates an infrastructure for ‘maintaining the gain’ as it establishes responsibility at the ‘coal face’. |
Workshop Design - we have learnt that investing time in designing the workshop, or whatever methodology you select to roll out the message, pays dividends. |
Peer Coaching - a very useful addition to help embed the culture, ‘peer coaching’ is a powerful concept. |
