The Brief
Like anyone starting out in a new role, Councillors also need support and training to rise to the challenges of their elected Member status.

New members need to know what the job entails and to build up their knowledge and skills and experienced councillors need to refresh their skills and knowledge to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of the modern world.

The Solution
Crewe and Nantwich Council is committed to the development of elected members. As part of this commitment, we were involved in a Programme of Member Training workshops, including: Time Management, Public Speaking and Speed Reading.

Recognising that councillors have many other responsibilities, the workshops were planned as ‘twilight’ sessions, running from late afternoon to early evening. A carefully designed programme and relaxed atmosphere enabled the councillors to acquire some practical new skills and develop their confidence, whatever their experience.
